The purpose of all the laws of development using the method of Kabbalah is to recognize the good and evil within us, and develop recognition of evil (i.e. the recognition of the egoistic will to receive within us as the source of all pain). By observing the spiritual laws, we can rid ourselves of all evil. This is because the difference in one’s development creates either a deeper, or a more superficial, recognition of evil, and a more powerful or less powerful desire to be rid of it. The game of self-perfection is centered on intensifying the recognition of evil and also the desire to be free from it.

The source of all evil is our egoism because it is opposite to the nature of the Creator, who wishes to bestow only good upon us. Since all that we perceive as pleasant comes from Him, proximity to the Creator is perceived as pleasure, and the degree of remoteness from Him is proportionally perceived as suffering. Since the Creator hates egoism, humans, too, abhor it, depending on the extent of their development. Attitudes towards egoism are wide-ranging, from acceptance of egoism as normal in a spiritually undeveloped person who uses it without restriction (down to stealing and murdering openly), to a more developed person’s feeling of shame because of open displays of egoism, to actual revulsion towards egoism in a spiritually developed individual.

- The essence of Kabbalah is in enabling a person to attain the ultimate level of development without suffering, and in a positive way.

Transformation of one’s attitude toward a fellow human being from egoistic to altruistic elevates a person to a perception of another world. Correcting our nature will enable us to feel not what happens within us, but what happens outside of us, the complete nature. When we unite with it, we feel our existence the way nature exists—eternal and perfect. We sympathize with that sensation, it governs us, and in that state even when our body expires, we feel ourselves as continuing to exist in the eternal nature. In such a state, physical life and death do not affect our sensation of existence because the inner egoistic perception has been replaced with external, altruistic perception.
