Kabbalah on Sex
A conversation between Kabbalist Rav Michael Laitman, PhD and Kabbalah Academy instructors Eugene Litvar and Michael Sanilevich

“Sex is man’s deepest, strongest desire, and hence has the most powerful, yet briefest fulfillment.” – Rav Michael Laitman, PhD

With so much focus on sex in our world, Kabbalah Academy instructors Eugene Litvar and Michael Sanilevich took it upon themselves to take time out and put the question “Why?” behind people’s thoughts, attitudes and activities involving sex to Kabbalist Rav Michael Laitman, PhD. The result: a discussion called “Kabbalah on Sex” where Rav Laitman answered the following questions:

Click Here to Read the Full Discussion “Kabbalah on Sex” (MS Word)

1. What are the spiritual roots of sex?
2. If sex is a natural phenomenon, then why is the issue of sex surrounded with embarrassment, restrictions, and awkwardness? Why are people generally ashamed to talk about sex?
3. What is the Creator’s attitude to man’s numerous sexual relations? What are the Creator’s moral values in the sexual sphere?
4. How does Kabbalah relate to the restrictions imposed on sex by religions?
5. How does Kabbalah regard premarital sex?
6. Why do men like virgin women?
7. If a man is unfaithful, it is considered a norm and everybody just smiles. But if a woman is unfaithful, it creates a universal scandal. Is a man allowed to have several partners according to spiritual laws?
8. Why does a woman demand from a man to be faithful, if according to the spiritual roots, a man may have several women?
9. Why do many women fail to receive satisfaction in sex?
10. Why do religions in general, and the Torah in particular, strictly forbid love between men and does not forbid such love between women? Is there a difference from the point of view of spiritual roots?
11. Is a homosexual’s soul male or female?
12. How can I find my other half when I’m surrounded by perverts?
13. Why, in recent years, have women engaged in the most ancient profession – prostitution – with such ease and why is their number steadily growing?
14. Is sex better or worse in the Upper Worlds, meaning, is it sweeter or bitterer than in our world?
15. Why is it enough for a man to look at a woman to feel good, whereas a woman needs to hear and lots of other things?
16. All these people who spend hours in gyms to improve their looks are sure that the opposite sex will like them more for it. Is this actually a correct way of thinking?
17. Is possible that we may lose a desire for sex?

A transcript from a public lecture filled with Q&A given by Rav Michael Laitman, PhD in Toronto (January 7, 2007) is now available. Rav Laitman first gave an overview of humanity’s egoistic development and some of the key stages of egoism’s growth in this development, and then answered the following questions:

?	Is there a connection between the Torah and Kabbalah?
?	How do Kabbalists feel about all the existing religions?
?	Are you aware of the energetic images which constitute the Kabbalistic tree of life, and which were received as a consequence of extrasensory perception?
?	From what I heard, famous Kabbalists are of the Jewish faith. Are there any Kabbalists of other faiths?
?	Will everything written in the Torah occur in reality, or is it just an object of one’s imagination and unreal?
?	What is the Creator? How do you see Him?
?	How do you feel about Berg’s Center?
?	Can a person join a group the moment he realizes or feels his “point in the heart”?
?	Is it possible to change your fate once you grow spiritually?
?	How does a person’s diet influence his studies in Kabbalah?
?	How does Kabbalah differ from theosophy?
?	Has any scientific data been collected affirming Kabbalah?
?	Why did the Book of Zohar only become available in 1995?
?	Are there Kabbalists-scientists who are not of Jewish descent (except Madonna)?
?	Why do you call egoism an integral part of Kabbalah? Why is it egoism specifically, and not another positive word? Doesn’t egoism refer to a situation when something is done for one person, while Kabbalah wants the opposite, for everyone?
?	Based on Kabbalah, as a science, can you assert that there is immortality?
?	For how long does one need to study Kabbalah, and what will happen once a person learns it?
?	Does having a grasp on Kabbalah help to conquer illnesses?
?	What awaits North America?
?	What can you tell us about the works of the Roerichs and the Blavatskys?
?	Are the laws of the Upper Providence known?
?	Can one study the original sources in translation?
?	What do cybernetics, the theory of informational governance, and Kabbalah have in common?
?	Why did Kabbalah become available during World War II?
?	Kabbalah rejects religion. What connection does Kabbalah have with following a religion? In particular, what is the meaning of the Kippah (yarmulke)?
?	Is there such a thing as reincarnations of souls?
?	Is there a separation between the soul and the body after death?
?	How can we tear a teenager away from drugs? What does Kabbalah say about this?
?	How do the governments of different countries that are in authority today feel about Kabbalah?
?	Is asceticism necessary in order to achieve the Upper spiritual world?
?	Do you teach about the spiritual world?
?	There are lots of different directions in Kabbalah. Which of them is correct?
?	Are the Ari and Chefetz Chaim primary sources?
?	Does Kabbalah engage in medical treatment, such as acupuncture?
?	What happens to the soul after a person dies?
?	Do all the feelings remain in the soul after death?
?	Can Kabbalah explain the fact of life after death, or rebirth?
?	Can you briefly state your opinion about the spiritual act called “the blow of fire,” or Pulsa Denura?
?	Does this mean that there exists only one reality? …and we will need to return in order to achieve the proper level, or a transition to another reality?
?	Is it possible to study Kabbalah without a teacher?
?	Who is a Kabbalah teacher?
?	How important is it to undergo the beginner stages of the revelation of egoism in one’s development? Is it possible to reach the Upper level, by-passing the lower stages?
?	Are the books that laid the foundation for Kabbalah also written by people?
?	Is Kabbalah the only way to attain the Upper level?
?	How do I rid my wife and children of super egoism?
?	By learning Kabbalah, do you believe in God?
?	You mentioned that the world is becoming more dangerous. When will this change, when will it become better?
?	Is it possible to receive the information we need without studying from books?
?	You said that only by developing the soul and attaining the Upper World is it possible to fix our fate. In our understanding, this means finding a better position in this world, getting married successfully, making more money, or finding a better job. If a person attains the Upper World, doesn’t he become a part of the governing system?

From Today’s Daily Lesson

Student: If I understood the previous paragraph correctly, does it mean that the higher spiritual level we are in, the more technology will decline?

<img src='http://www.kabbalahblog.info/wp-content/uploads/25-10_31-19_00022.jpg' alt='Rav Michael Laitman, PhD‘ />Rav Laitman: Of course. What do we need technology for? If I understand you without a phone, cell-phone or any other communication line, then what do I need technology for?

If I feel others, instinctively, naturally and internally, then why would I need thousands of TV channels? To constantly look at what they’re saying? If it’s all in me, then why do I need it?

If I understand the phenomena that can be in a person, and they are inside of me, then why would I need comedies, dramas, histories, novels and whatnot? It’s all inside me.

I don’t become thick inside. I begin to contain everyone and everything in a way that I’m happy. I’m not limited, but on the contrary, the fact that we want to connect to each other in this way, with this great distortion—look at what’s happening, especially in how the media attracts attention for the reason that they don’t want connection between us.

“Communication lines” is only a name we give them. But what communication is it? They want to profit on peoples’ connections. It’s important for them. In other words, it doesn’t matter what they provide us with and what kind of connection they create among us. They go on and on about what is happening in their services, and you go in there… and it’s only so that you go in there. Just look at the lies they’re using. These are not communication lines. The name is incorrect.

In other words, we need to understand that everything which has taken place since the Babylonian separation—when everyone lost their ability to understand and feel others, when the confusion in the languages occurred, when one didn’t understand the other—everything since then has only been to complement that flaw.

We see that it’s not working, and today it’s finally appearing in the clearest way. Leaders don’t understand the people, they don’t understand themselves, children, grown-ups, or anything. We don’t even want this communication anymore. We see that it has reached its lowest point.

So in the beginning, we wanted to, as it was in Babylon… What happened there? Abraham said that we have to complement ourselves, so we went deeper into nature, the ego separated us, and we have to go deeper into nature, be more giving, more connected to each other, and then we will be one system again, in harmony. The rest of the Babylonians said “No. We will go, each according to his ego. We’ll be able to connect to each other; we’ll be fine. We’ll provide for each other, and no one will have any deficiencies.” We see today how no one can give himself anything; no one can connect to others; no one feels that he has any need to connect to anyone, and if he does have it, he doesn’t know how to do it. We are in the worst possible state.

It thus turns out that our crisis is the same Babylonian crisis, in ancient Babylon, in the Tower of Babel, and now we understand that it’s because we didn’t take on the right complementation. Instead of spiritual complementation, we wanted to complement ourselves corporeally—technologically—and we failed.

Rav Michael Laitman, PhD in the lesson on Baal HaSulam’s article Exile and Redemption: Rav Michael Laitman wmv video | mp3 audio (55 min)

From today’s daily lesson:

What is Ego?

Student: What is the ego? Can you define it?
Rav Laitman: The ego is what I feel as self-relaxation, a void, a deficiency, a desire… it’s a socket or a depression in me that’s filled. I feel the filling of that absence as pleasure.
•	There’s a deficiency which is filled.
•	The sensation of deficiency is called “pain.”
•	The sensation of the deficiency’s filling is called “pleasure.”
There are four definitions: deficiency, fulfillment, pain/suffering, pleasure. (50:13)

What is Shame?

Rav Laitman: There is shame above the ego and shame within the ego.
“I’m ashamed. I stole, and everything was fine but now I got caught. Oh, how people will talk about me, it’ll be in the paper and all kinds of places… so I’m ashamed. Am I ashamed because I stole? No. I’m ashamed because I was caught.” –That’s shame below the Machsom (barrier).

Shame above the Machsom is from—“Am I giving? Do I love?”—and the shame is in the discovery that I’m not like this way in every way. It is shame from a lack of bestowal. (55:50)

Rav Michael Laitman, PhD in the lesson on Baal HaSulam’s article “The Revelation of Godliness (Matan Torah)” (April 29, 2007) wmv video | mp3 audio (59 min)
