It takes time to develop an appreciation for something you do not at first understand. The greater the understanding grows, the greater the appreciation. Great appreciation turns into awe and then reverence.

I have studied the Course in Miracles. It has taken years of study and the help of talented teachers to bring me to sufficient understanding of that text so that I feel awe and reverence towards it.

Simple people can feel awe and reverence in a beautiful church, but they lack understanding. It is a long journey to combine understanding and awe and reverence all together.
